Boulevard de la Libertad: Enhancing Connectivity

By Frank "Sugar" Hudson

The State and Federal highway construction project to become Boulevard de la Libertad between San Miguel de Allende and Dolores Hidalgo was launched with the aim of fostering improved connectivity and bolstering the transport infrastructure between San Miguel and Dolores. The eagerly awaited road construction project is underway. This ambitious endeavor seeks to address longstanding issues of traffic congestion, insufficient road capacity, and overall road safety concerns that have plagued commuters traveling between these two bustling  towns for years.

In the specific section of Boulevard Libertad intervention work will be carried out on an extension of 30.7 kilometers, as part of the state investment that amounts to 3.2 billion pesos.  The project, slated to be finished by September (year not specified), involves the expansion and enhancement of the existing highway that links both towns.

Engineers and construction crews have been diligently working on widening the road to four traffic lanes, distributed in two directions. Improvements include a 3 meter cycle path and public lighting along the entire route.  Furthermore, the road construction project includes the installation of modern pedestrian walkways and safety barriers to ensure the well-being of all travellers.

The upgrades to the roadway include the addition of four vehicular bridges over waterways, one railroad overpass, four turn-a-rounds and four underpasses. Also included is the installation of public lighting, in addition to the placement of operational signage and urban image that contemplates the colonial aspect of the two cities. As the construction progresses, residents and commuters are advised to adhere to temporary traffic diversions, exercise caution near work zones, and cooperate with traffic management personnel for a seamless transition during the project's implementation phase.

Through collaborative efforts and a steadfast commitment to quality, this transformative initiative is poised to lay the foundation for a more connected, sustainable, and prosperous future for both towns and their residents.
