i3 is back for its sixth season. What’s i3? It’s a non-profit lecture series: Conversations with Big Thinkers has quickly made its mark, offering an impressive array of thinkers and visionaries. It developed at the home of the late Mayer Shacter.
The first lecture is scheduled for October 8. Based in San Miguel de Allende, i3: ideas that inform & inspire has become a vibrant institution since its inception in 2016. Over the years speakers have included former Mexican President Vicente Fox and TV journalist Miles O’Brien. Each season, i3 brings together six speakers to discuss a mix of subjects. Notes i3, “Over the years, the i3 stage has hosted an impressive roster of over 25 prominent figures, including Pulitzer Prize winners, Nobel laureates, and acclaimed personalities from the worlds of television and film. The lectures span a wide range of disciplines—science, health, environment, politics, and culture—delving into topics that resonate on both a personal and global scale. From aging and Alzheimer’s to climate change, political dynamics, and the role of microbes in our health, i3 has become a nexus for thought-provoking discussions.”
As a non-profit organization, i3 relies heavily on its Patron Program to sustain its operations. Patrons enjoy preferred seating at all i3 presentations, exclusive invitations to “Patrons only” events—providing opportunities to interact with presenters and fellow Patrons—and access to the annual Patrons Brunch.
As the sixth season kicks off this October 8th, i3 is set to continue its tradition of exceptional programming. The inaugural speaker, Kara Fitzgerald, will explore "Achieving Healthy Longevity," a topic that is likely to be of great significance to San Miguel’s expatriate community. Her insights promise to offer valuable perspectives on maintaining vitality and wellness as we age.
November brings back the electrifying Hedrick Smith, a familiar face at i3. His lecture, “The Road Ahead for American Democracy,” comes at a crucial juncture, right after the American presidential election, offering a timely analysis of the evolving political landscape.
This season also welcomes Denise Dresser, a renowned Mexican political analyst and columnist recently named one of Forbes’ 50 most powerful women in Mexico. Dresser’s insights into Mexican politics will provide a nuanced perspective on current affairs.Adding to the lineup is Monika Maeckle, a seasoned journalist and nature writer from San Antonio, Texas. Maeckle will delve into the migration patterns of the monarch butterfly, a topic of growing concern as environmental challenges threaten these remarkable insects.
The season will culminate in March 2025 with Carlos Bravo Regidor’s lecture on “Sheinbaum: Implications for Democracy and US/Mexico Relations.” Regidor’s analysis promises to shed light on the broader implications of political developments in Mexico for both domestic and international audiences.
With such a diverse and compelling lineup, i3 continues to be a beacon of intellectual engagement and cultural enrichment in San Miguel de Allende. This season’s offerings are sure to spark dialogue and inspire thought among its ever-curious audience.
