By Meagan Burns
I’m an artist, and drawing is my daily ritual—creating with my hands keeps me grounded and offers a much-needed escape from the constant buzz of news and technology. Recently, I’ve ventured into the world of artificial intelligence (AI), discovering how it can enhance both my art practice and business.
From Overwhelm to Opportunity
When the AI wave first appeared, I was overwhelmed. The idea of intertwining something as personal as art with technology felt intrusive, and initially I resisted. But I kept learning and experimenting, eventually realizing the benefits of using AI and how it can support my work. It’s become a tool that helps me adapt while staying true to myself as an artist. Learning to communicate with AI, particularly chatbots, is an art in itself—asking clear questions and refining inquiries to extract meaningful insights. These exchanges challenge me to think creatively and strategically.
AI as a Creative Catalyst
While integrating AI into my art business, I remain committed to creating by hand. My continuous line drawing style anchors me in the present, while AI helps me explore future possibilities. It’s just a tool—a tool to use thoughtfully, with eyes wide open.
My Fellow Artists
I encourage fellow artists to approach AI with curiosity; it does way much more than mangle surreal looking photos and videos. Whether it’s learning the language, shaking out new ideas, or streamlining workflows, AI can complement your creative journey. Stay curious and hands-on—don’t stick your head in the sand.
