San Miguel Jack: Social Scene

Social: Tom and Denise Whennen and Mark and Rachelle Schaff are off on a three-week lux Argentinian Oceania cruise. There are sure to be some wine tours involved when in port - no pun intended. Robert and Liz Cooksey have been seen riding around town in her new white Nissan Sidekick. Robert reached out and said he was itching to go to the beach. Surfs up at San Pancho dude (surfing for octogenarians is not that far-fetched, like the old days off Waikiki with Duke Kahanamouku) just beware of dicey MX beach burgers, lettuce rough on the tummy.  Connie and Mike Wolf are back from trip number two to Italy. (Fitting as they toodle around San Miguel de Allende in their little Topolino Fiat.) They spent last month at the beach in Troncones and over in Florida, having just enough time to party with friends in Antigua. One of San Miguel de Allende's busiest travelers is Christine Ruckle. Between her ladies' luncheons, last year she was seen in Europe and Australia. She is off to Vietnam, Singapore, Bali, and points in between this Spring. Barney Sutton and Susan K. Grant with good friends Mike and Patricia Vairin all from Louisville Kentucky, were spotted at a lavish cocktail party given by bon vivants, Howard Haynes and Bill HarrisIan Gough, San Miguek de Allende's 'official-unofficial' photographer, is now in Mexico City and places as yet undecided. Luckily for us, Ian's lens will capture wherever he lands. Kris and Eric (aka Vision Lizard Media) Hoffhiens hosted the most wonderful White Elephant party, before heading off to Patzucaro with friends Barb and James Cooney-Marrelli. All things designer, Richard Almada has been making the party rounds, as has artist Meagan Burns, fitting in an art-inspired trip to San Francisco. Palm Springers Brenda and Greg are back from their winter retreat and chilly but lux Silversea Antarctic cruise. In the most elegant of Bridgerton ways Dear Reader what will Sir Gregory be sporting on the Croquet lawn and what affairs will Lady Brenda Sexton be up to this season?

Music: The many talents of singer-songwriter, actress, poet, and clothes designer, Lady Zen, in short, if you see her advertised to be singing, don't think twice, GO! Yala is another note-worthy musician with his electric violin. He can be seen playing solo at Quince or with his fellow bandmates, the Hot Tamales most Sundays at Paprika - don't miss him either. Then there is Jazz composer, and keyboard artist Doug Robinson. If you are lucky, you might even hear him do his heartfelt soliloquy on abandoned and adopted animals.

Food & Other Happenings: The NYT, Gourmet, the WSJ, and Conde Nast all shout Jim Denevan's praises for his world-famous Outstanding in the Field, a gastro-150-person culinary extravaganza. (They have reached all 50 States and 24 countries around the globe (with tables in vineyards, on beaches, meadows, fishing docks, and even city streets). San Miguelians' had the opportunity to participate in this culinary feast out in the campo of the Trapp family, an organic and sustainable ranch, Cañada de la VirgenThe Restaurant owner and Chef Donnie Masterton was the mastermind behind the menu. Not for the faint of heart budget-wise at 7,731mxn/$385usd per person, but, perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime experience. "Nigel" is his name and some have exclaimed him to be 'the most beautiful Springer Spaniel' in town. Owned by ex-San Francisco Attorney, Mark Darley. Expat resident, author and Ad Man, Jerry Wayne Jodice, is pleased to announce the re-print of his anecdotal and fun stories-filled book, “The Tabacco Road Less Traveled” available on Kindle. Kirsten McCormick, Founder of Teen Connect, is the quintessential den mother of unplugged travel adventure camps for teens to connect, build confidence, and lasting friendships. The diversity of our loving community is never-ending.

Charity Events: Marco Massarotti put his Casa Nostra behind Maestro Rogelio Riojas-Nolasco for Operísima México, with two rooftop fundraiser dinners for a lucky few. And who could forget the Super Bowl dinner fundraiser at The Restaurant for Equinoterapia.

Last Word: One of the questions I get asked most often is: "Can you recommend a good private driver service?" Well here are my top three (in no particular order) Roberto: 52 415 102 7166; Rafa: 52 415 1107 2170 and Javi Mejía: 52 415 101 0455 From simple around-town errands to city tours, Costco, and airport runs, these are our conductores amigables.
