San Miguel Taste. Country Calm And Comfort Food: Why Cienfuegos Is Worth The Drive

By Amy G. Rothlin

I’d been meaning to visit Cien Fuegos, owned by well known Chef Davide Giribaldi, for ages; its comforting menu and countryside charm had long been on my radar. With all the construction affecting businesses on the road to Dolores, now felt like the right time to support local. It’s right next to La Burger and absolutely worth the stop. While the future promises smoother travel with a new four-lane highway, these establishments need our support now more than ever. There's a unique magic to dining in the countryside, and when it's paired with exceptional food? Even better.

From the moment we arrived, Mary and Doris greeted us with genuine warmth and hospitality. The setting itself is incredibly inviting and cozy, with an open kitchen that immediately draws you in. We watched, mesmerized, as fresh pasta and pizza dough were prepared before our eyes, the impressive wood-fired oven standing ready to transform simple ingredients into something memorable. Our meal began with a beautiful and generous beetroot, cauliflower, and organic lettuce salad. Served over a creamy cauliflower purée and finished with a tangy dressing, it's a wonderfully fresh dish that's perfect for sharing. Then came the undisputed stars of the evening: a rich and incredibly creamy carbonara, a lasagna that I'd confidently label a must-try, and classic Neapolitan-style pizza, paired with a chilled house Malbec. Simple, traditional, and absolutely satisfying, each dish delivered on the promise of true comfort.

Yes, we did encounter a bit of traffic on the way, but the moment we settled in under the cloudy sky in the campo, every minute was worth it. Good food, good people, and the peaceful hum of the countryside. Cien Fuegos is more than just a restaurant; it's a beautiful reminder that comfort food isn't solely about what's on the plate, but how it makes you feel. This place, without question, was made to be shared. As they say at Cien Fuegos: "La cocina de siempre: hecha para disfrutar, pensada para compartir." (A kitchen made for enjoying, meant for sharing.)
