Putting Mexico at the Top
Sanmiguelense Guillermo de la Vega Ramirez makes history by winning his second World Series of Poker (WSOP) championship ring in Chicago, Illinois.
A native of San Miguel de Allende, he has always demonstrated his discipline, his values, and what a great person he is. He currently competes as a poker player in Mexico and abroad, representing his town and his nation in the best way in this complicated sport, poker.
Poker is a mental sport with a lot of variance, it is not very common for a player to dominate the circuit or for a world champion to repeat the feat the following tournament, as he competes against hundreds or thousands of players depending on the tournament. These tournaments are exhausting, since they are played daily for 12 to 14 hours and the levels where the bets go up (blinds) can last between 30 to 40 minutes approximately, with a 15-minute break every 4 levels.
Guille started playing poker as a hobby with his friends about 16 years ago. Later he began to compete in tournaments in Mexico, where his game wasn't as good and did not have such good results.Over the years and with discipline, he improved his game and continued competing, in Mexico and abroad. It was then when Guillermo began competing in WSOP tournaments and with perseverance and determination, his results were improving.
In December 2022, Guillermo won his first WSOP championship ring at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles, which would mean the first great triumph of the Sanmiguelense and a milestone in his career.
On April 6, 2024, Guillermo made history in Mexican poker, after a little more than 9 hours of tournament play, he won his second WSOP championship ring at the Grand Victoria Casino in Chicago. With this result Guille became the first and only Mexican to win two championship rings in the World Series of Poker.
"I am very proud to put the Mexican flag in first place" confessed Guillermo after winning his second ring in the WSOP Circuit. After winning the championship ring, Guillermo will have the opportunity to play the World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions in Los Angeles, where only players who won a ring in the WSOP Circuit are invited, this will be a great challenge and a golden opportunity for Guillermo's career, adding that he will be present in Las Vegas to play the World Series of Poker (the most anticipated event of the year in poker).
"I am very grateful for the opportunity that God and life give me to be able to make these trips and I know that step by step I will achieve more and better results, it's just a matter of not giving up and remaining disciplined," said Guillermo de la Vega.
Without a doubt, Guillermo is a source of joy for San Miguel de Allende and Mexico and he shows us that with perseverance, and dedication everything can be achieved. Keep up the success, Guille!
